I have always been very interested in the STEM fields, therefore writing has never come very easy to me. I never understood how others could have 10 times the number of pages I had, when I had met the requirements the teacher set. I have always struggle with choosing the right topic that will give me plenty to say. Chapter 5 in the Bedford Book of Genres showed me that you don’t even have to choose a topic that really interests you, it can be anything and when taking the right steps, you can find a specific topic by doing research correctly and find an abundance of information.
Though writing was something I was never particularly skilled at; research was something that I had plenty of previous experience in. As I continue with my college education I know that I will have to do plenty of more research. I feel this chapter has given me vital tips that will help me to become more disciplined in my research. It showed me how to stay on task and how not to get overwhelmed with all of the information that was available, by staying focused on the information that was really important to what I was interested in.
